Bonfire nights and Bowling

Is it already Monday again? Our time here flies by so fast. After a fun and eventful weekend we are back in class. There are only three days left in W&J and those are dedicated to a sustainable future of our small town Washington, PA. In small groups we are developing a revitalization plan: What makes the city unique? How can those sights/parks/events be enhanced in order to benefit the city's attractiveness and standard of life? Always keeping in mind the aspect of sustainability since this is our main topic of the summer program.

After lunch break Mr. Shaughnessy gave us a brief overview of our upcoming trip to Washington D.C. which made us even more excited for it.

In English class Cathy encouraged us to develop our speaking skills by playing the "conversation ball game". We threw a ball to each other with questions written on it, an easy way to start a conversation.

The highlight of the day was definitely our get together at "the Hub". Seated outside on the porch we lit a bonfire and made the most delicious desert: S'mores = roasted marshmallows + cracker + chocolate. Hmmm! Inside the building there was a gaming room with a variety of games such as table tennis, basketball and pool. Everyone was chatting and playing in a cheerful mood. The jukebox playlist accompanied this perfect ending for the day.

Freshly recovered our Tuesday started with group work in class for our projects. We continued working on our revitalization plan and prepared our final presentations and texts.

In English class Cathy asked us to write down trivia questions about various topics. These questions were then answered in different groups - some more and some less successful. To further develop our language skills a detective game followed. In that we were supposed to detect the suspicious who had stolen all our tasty cinnamon rolls from the cafeteria.

We ate dinner off campus at the Primanti Bros (a restaurant that was founded in Pittsburgh in 1993), some of us dared to try the "Pitts-Burger". This local speciality consists of two slices of Italian bread, a burger patty, coleslaw and fries - definitely worth a try!

The evening was complimented by our bowling session, where some of us achieved some strikes. With these successful experiences we went back to our accommodation.
